The NAT function allows all the PCs and
other devices on the LAN to use private IP addresses, hidden from
the Internet. The Firewall ensures that Information on the subscribers
LAN remains private and is not open to unauthorised access from
the Internet. SIP and H323 standards are supported for IP telephony
applications. The units do not offer secure protection from a
determined Hacker so should be used with caution on Networks or
PCs that are permanently connected to the Internet.

The
Firewall feature is essential for users with always on access
to the Internet. With the Router connected between the Internet
access point (Cable/ADSL Modem) and the users network. an effective
barrier is formed between the users network and the Internet.
This will protect the users LAN from unauthorised access via the
Internet. The Tunnelling feature allows secure VPNs (Virtual Private
Networks) to be established over the Internet between a number
of different sites. Users with a number of small branch offices
will find that this provides an always-on service that is a very
cost-effective alternative to leased lines or ISDN.
